Gaiety School Of Acting - First Term Over

I actually can't believe the firs term of the part-time one year course is already over!

I have been going to the Gaiety School of Acting now twice a week since the 1st of October so it's so strange having nowhere to go this week.

Getting ready for the Showcase

After all our hard work on our monologues the class finally had our showcase last Monday and it went really well. We were all so chuffed for each other because we have seen the hard work everyone has put in, and how much people have improved.

Like I said in my earlier blogs, we were individually directed on our monologues  how to perfect them, how to move, what tone to use, and although it could be frustrating at times, everyone got it perfect on the night and our teacher was really pleased with our progress.

After the showcase we did indulge in some after hours celebrating, and not to name any names, but a few of us were out until the very early hours of the morning.

That's one of things I love about the course. We have all grown really close as friends and socialising is just a part of the whole package now.

Even our teacher Antoinette decided to join us for a few and cheers to a great first term. But it's all over for now, and next term we will be focusing on scene work.

We will be paired up at some stage and we will have to work with one person on a scene for weeks, once again being directed for a performance.

It's going to be challenging, but we all can't wait to progress to the next stage. For now we will enjoy our 4 weeks off for the Christmas break, but we're all back on January 7, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say we miss the place already.

Until next time!

Lots of Love,

Performing Beauty Queen Of Leenane

Hey everyone,

So today I performed a scene from the Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths) play The Beauty Queen of Leenane. I was cast as the lead Maureen for a production in IADT (Dun Laoighre Institute of Art, Design and Technology).

The performance was quite an intimate one, with the audience just a few steps away from our performing space.

But I really enjoyed it and I hope to work again with IADT in the future. I was lucky enough to perform for Rebecca Roper, who has acted as the Irish Casting Director for Batman: Dark Knight, Alexander and Breakfast On Pluto.

So it was really great to hear her feedback. Brilliant day all and all and the more time I'm spending performing whether on set or on stage, I'm falling more and more in love with it. If I could live on a set or live on stage, I would!

Enrolling in the Gaiety School this year has definitely re-ignited my love for acting. It has been my passion from such a young age, and after all the intense acting courses, the years of stage school, it's finally paying off and I'm getting to perform and improve my skills everyday.

I have a few auditions coming up in the next few weeks. And should have a link to the short movie I shot last month 'Denial' in the coming weeks.

Film Short - Denial

So this week I shot my first ever film short, and I was delighted to land the lead role.

The name of the film short is Denial and I play the lead character Grace. It was a long day of shooting, starting at 9am and ending at 6pm without any break in-between but I loved every minute of it.

It was great working with a professional crew, and I'm so glad of the experience. I learned a lot from shooting Denial, not only about how to perfect my own acting skills, but all about the art of film making too, it was so interesting.

I also had some scenes with other actors, and it was great being able to bounce off each other and give each other advice. It was such a nice atmosphere.

I'm not sure when it will be out, but I will post the film short on the blog and add it to my showreel very soon.

Gaiety School Of Acting - Weekly Blog

Hey everyone,

So I'm still loving the One Year Part Time Acting Course in the Gaiety School Of Acting in Temple Bar.

As the weeks go on we are getting more and more focused on the art of performing and right now we are working a lot on our monologues.

Every actor will know the importance of having a good monologue, but I have learned so much more about what monologue to choose, why you choose it and exactly how to act it out.

Our teacher has been showing us one by one the best techniques to performing your monologue. From text analysis to body movement, each point is as important as the next. It feels great being directed in a monologue and everyone is excited to be perfecting their performance.

Last week we also get enjoy a little trip. We went to the Project Arts Theatre in Templebar to watch the play Ulysses.

It was great to be out our performing space and in to another to see what it really takes to be in a play. The whole class got to see first hand what it's like to perform in front of a sell out audience, and what is needed to perform in theatre.

It was really an eye-opener and everyone enjoyed it. One day we all hope to be up there performing in a sell-out show.

This week we will be going forward with our monologues and focusing on performance. Each week we continue to do the basic exercises which helps us understand our movement and our voice.

I'm really excited for my next class, each week is getting more serious and more focused on the craft. I will be updating a blog on my experience at the Gaiety School Of Acting every Monday on Miss Red.

I've Received My Script For My First TV Pilot!

So I'm really excited about my role in the upcoming TV pilot Darker Days. I was cast to play the role of Jenny last month and I can't wait to start filming.

Today all the cast and crew were sent out the script and I had a look at some of my lines. We should be rehearsing soon and filming will begin in Galway next March.

I have completed courses in acting specifically for TV & Film before, so it will be great to finally be on a real set, working with a proper crew.

It's not a huge role, but it's exciting all the same, and I value each and every experience.

The Gaiety School Of Acting - One Year Part Time Course

Hey everyone,

So a lot has been happening in the last few months. After landing a part in my first TV pilot and auditioning for a BFI Short, I am also concentrating on furthering my training.

I have been taking acting classes since the age of 8, and it's always been a huge passion of mine. I have acted in many plays over the years, taught my own acting and dancing school, as well as starring in musicals and now I'm ready to further my passion.

I haven't taken part in an acting class in about three years so I decided to apply to the Gaiety School Of Acting in Temple Bar, Dublin. I was actually at an intimate interview with Colin Farrell this summer, and he spoke about getting his acceptance letter to the school and he proud he was, so I applied.

After meeting with the co-ordinator of the One Year Part Time course, he offered me a place on the course straight away and I was delighted.

Now I'm heading into my third week, and I will be blogging every week about my experience. The first week was all about getting comfortable in the space and with the people we will be acting with for the next year.

As in many of the courses I have taken before, there are numerous exercises the entire class takes part in. Some of them might seem silly, like running around the room and creating still images with your body, but the point is to build confidence and to get comfortable with your class mates.

Trust me, once you've made mistakes and had a laugh with your class mates, you won't be nervous when it comes to reading out your first monologue in front of everyone.

Like I said, I've done a lot of courses before, so I have done some of the exercises before but it's nice to go back to basics. As the weeks go on the course is getting more and more intense.

A lot of our exercises  you will discover, are actually about memory and body language. Two things that are crucial when acting in a play or a movie.

What I've learned so far is how important it is to be aware of your own body, transitioning between scene to scene always staying in character, always with confidence.

That might sound very simple, but it's quite important, so I'm glad that we have been doing some of those crucial exercises.

So far there has been a lot of focus on body shape and movement

But like I said, things are getting more intense now. And in the next two weeks we will all be going through the monologue process.

Most actors have their own monologue that they chose themselves to use in auditions, but in the next two weeks we will learn a monologue from scratch, we will be given direction on how to act the scene and we will be acting alone in front of an entire class.

The Gaiety is a well established, world renowned acting school, so it's great to be apart of it. Alumni include Colin Farrell himself, House actress Olivia Wilde and Stuart Townsend.

I'm really excited for my class tonight, and I can't believe it's Week 3 already. I will be updating a blog on my experience at the Gaiety School Of Acting every Monday on Miss Red.

Audition Today!

Hey World,

So I drove to Belfast today to audition for an upcoming BFI Short (I won't give too much information away about this film).

I was sent the script two days before and had to prepare for two roles, the lead female character and a minor character that has a great scene with a well-known Irish actor.

When I got there I was asked to read for the part of the minor female, I had put a lot of energy and emotion into the lead so I was a bit put off at first, but I love the complexity of the minor character also.

The audition was filmed and the Director told me I was 'great' and that he was 'really happy' with how it went.

That was really nice to hear as it was my first movie audition in a long time. Fingers crossed I will hear something, whether it's a yes or a no.
